FilmCraft on GitHub: Repo, Releases, Licence and Docs

Updated 2026-10-12

FilmCraft's source is public at github.com/storytold/filmcraft. This page explains what is in the repo, how releases work and which neighbouring repositories matter.

The repository

  • github.com/storytold/filmcraft - the editor, its CLI and the web build.
  • License: dual MIT or Apache-2.0, at your option. ArtCraft's name and logos are trademarks under a separate brand license.
  • The README documents the feature list, codec table, known gaps and build steps; docs/web.md covers the browser build.

Releases

FilmCraft ships frequent alpha releases - five tagged releases landed between 5 and 11 October 2026 (v0.2.0 to v0.6.0). Each release carries installers and packages for the supported platforms plus a SHA256SUMS.txt.

Release assets follow a predictable naming pattern, for example filmcraft-0.6.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage, with deb, rpm, Flatpak and tarball variants for Linux and a FreeBSD tarball.

Reading the README honestly

The percentages in the README are the maintainers' self-assessments, not independent benchmarks. The known-gaps list is the more useful part: it tells you exactly what will block a given project.
