FilmCraft on Windows

Install FilmCraft on Windows

FilmCraft publishes Windows builds for x64, arm64 and 32-bit x86, as installers and portable zips. Windows and Linux get less testing than macOS, so run a short test project first.

What is supported

  • x64, arm64 and x86 builds.
  • Installer or portable zip.
  • Hardware decode is available on Windows; software export is H.264 only.

Steps

  1. 01Open the latest release

Use the download buttons on this site, or go to github.com/storytold/filmcraft/releases/latest. Only download from github.com/storytold or getartcraft.com.

  2. 02Pick the build

x64 for most PCs, arm64 for Windows-on-Arm, x86 only for 32-bit systems. Choose the portable zip if you do not want to install.

  3. 03Verify the checksum

Each release ships a SHA256SUMS.txt. Compare it with the hash of your download.

    Get-FileHash .\filmcraft-download.zip -Algorithm SHA256
  4. 04Run FilmCraft

Run the installer, or unzip and start the executable. Import a few clips and a music track and check trimming, playback and export before real work.

Troubleshooting

SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher
This is a young open-source project. Confirm the download came from the official GitHub release and matches SHA256SUMS.txt before continuing.
My FCP7 XML media paths break on Windows
v0.6.0 fixed a Windows path issue with FCP7 XML media. Update to the latest release before relinking.
Playback is slow on 4K footage
Lumetri, keying and export rendering still run on the CPU. Work with proxies or lower-resolution media on modest hardware.
