FilmCraft Formats and Codecs: What It Can Import and Export
Updated 2026-10-12
Format support decides whether a video editor fits your footage. This is FilmCraft's list as documented in its README, with the important distinction between formats it can decode only and formats it can also encode.
Video
- H.264: decode and encode (software delivery export is H.264 only).
- ProRes: decode; exports ProRes 422 HQ.
- DNxHD / DNxHR: decode and encode. MJPEG: decode and encode.
- HEVC / H.265, VP9 and AV1: decode only. H.265 export needs a hardware encoder; there is no AV1 export.
Audio and containers
- AAC-LC and PCM: decode and encode. Opus, MP3, FLAC, ALAC and Vorbis: decode.
- MP4 and MOV: read and write. Matroska / WebM: decode. MXF, MPEG transport/program streams, Ogg import.
- WAV export, PNG sequence and animated GIF export.
Interchange and captions
- FCP7 XML, FCPXML, OpenTimelineIO, CMX 3600 EDL, AAF and OMF 2.0.
- Captions: SRT, WebVTT and SCC.
- Native project format: .fcproj. Premiere .prproj files cannot be opened.
Not supported yet
- Camera RAW and E-AC-3 audio.
- VST3, Audio Unit and OpenFX plug-ins.
