Why drop-frame matters
At 29.97 and 59.94 fps, timecode counts in a 30 or 60 base but real time runs slightly slower. Drop-frame timecode skips frame numbers (not frames) at the start of every minute except every tenth so the clock matches real time. Mixing drop and non-drop timecode is a classic source of drift in long programmes.
