FilmCraft and AI Video Clips: A Practical Workflow
Updated 2026-10-12
FilmCraft has few AI features - speech-to-text is optional and off by default. If you want AI-generated footage in your timeline, you generate it elsewhere and edit it in FilmCraft.
The workflow
- Make a clip: write a prompt or drop in one reference image on the AI clip maker. A 5-second 480p clip with sound renders in about 1-3 minutes.
- Download the MP4 - it is H.264 video, which FilmCraft decodes natively.
- Import it into a FilmCraft project alongside the rest of your footage.
- Cut, grade and add titles, then export H.264.
Tips
- Use 16:9 for widescreen projects and 9:16 for vertical shorts, matching your sequence settings.
- Generate several short clips and cut between them rather than expecting one long take.
- Use a reference image when you need a clip to start from a specific frame.
- Use the free timecode calculator to line up cut points when you work across frame rates.
Costs
The first clip is free after sign-in. After that a clip costs 60 credits, sold in one-time packs with no subscription; failed renders are refunded automatically.
